The Arboretum in Wirtach is the oldest forest dendrological garden in Poland. It owes its foundation to the forester Adam Putrich, who started planting rows of various trees and shrubs in a fruit tree nursery in 1875. By the end of the 19th century, there were already 29 experimental plots in Adam Putrich's forest garden with trees and shrubs from other climatic zones. The foresters studied the ability of exotic species to acclimatise to our climatic conditions and the economic suitability of these plants.
