Vivat Vasa! 2022

The main event of the VIVAT VASA! Project will be the historical and battle show "THE GNIEW BATTLE 1626", which will take place on August 7-9, 2022 in the Vistula meadows, at the foot of the Gniew Castle.

For the nineteenth time, the charming, historic Gniew on the Vistula River meadows will become the arena for the largest Historical Festival in Poland, promoting the culture, customs, craftsmanship and military of the 17th-century Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth as well as the cultural and natural heritage of Poland and Pomerania. In 2002, the reconstruction groups from Gniew and their leaders, experienced in organizing the staging of the Battle of Grunwald, started to implement a new project called "VIVAT VASA! Battle of Gniew 1626.” This undertaking initiated the development of the 17th-century historical reconstruction in Poland. In 2007, the VIVAT VASA! was awarded the Certificate of the Polish Tourist Organization "TOURIST PRODUCT OF THE YEAR 2007".

The Historical Festival will be carried out on a vast space including:

Old Town of Gniew, where another Craft Fair will be held together with the Blacksmith Art Show. Marcin "Gas" Mańkowski, referring to the tradition of Artistic Forging Shows organized in Gniew since 1994 and performances by artists in the Concert of Early and Folk Music,
the Castle Hill in Gniew, where the next Gniew Hussar Tournament will be held as part of the Polish Hussar League Tournaments, and the Promotion Zone of the Polish Armed Forces will be organized as part of the "Become a Soldier of the Republic of Poland" Campaign,
Vistula meadows, where the War Camp will be located with national and foreign army camps available to visitors, and the main, the largest historical and battle staging with the participation of hussars, entitled "The Gniew Battle 1626", preceded by drills and exercerunks by troops participating in the war.

One of the important goals of the VIVAT VASA Historical Festival! is the development and cultivation of international contacts of the 17th-century reenactors community. In the 19th edition of VIVAT VASA! historical reconstruction groups from Poland, the Czech Republic, the USA, Canada, Hungary, France, Great Britain, Sweden, and Ukraine will take part, in the strength of over 600 performers, including over 50 cavalrymen - hussars, reiters, and light cavalry. During the Festival, over 25,000 spectators and guests can be expected. In the organization of the VIVAT VASA Historical Festival! is attended by the Self-Government of the City and Commune of Gniew, Zamek Gniew Sp. z o.o., the Foundation "European Historical Park in Gniew Castle", the Association "Hussar Banner of the Pomeranian Voivodeship", Archaeological Museum in Gdańsk. The project is supported by the patron of culture and the owner of Castle Gniew, POLMLEK GROUP, and numerous donors from Poland, the USA, and Sweden.
